Self Reflection
Hello everyone,
For this third blog, I want to briefly share my own experiences on joining a greek organization.
When I first arrived in college, I knew one other person on campus. I seemed lost, and basically alone. I was reading posters and signs for various greek organization that were going to RUSH (RUSH is the term used during the period when a group is planning on having event to recruit new members.) I honestly never had any urge to join a greek organization, but my friend that I met wanted to go to an event, but didn’t want to go alone, so I went along as well. In that first event, I met so many new friends, and talked more than I did in an entire month. I became interested, and pledged in the weeks that followed. It was one of the best decisions I ever made, mainly because it gave me something to strive towards. To do better academically, as well as improve my social skills.
If there is any advice I can give, it is to find a group that you are interested in and to go check them out. You’ll never know if you will like anything if you don’t give it a tryout. I hope that this information has shined some light on this particular subject, and if you would like to know anything else, or more feel free to email me at: njrp@iup.edu
It is my hope that all of you have a fantastic semester with Marlen.

Hi Jeff! It was nice to read about your experiences on joining a greek organization. I’m going to spend next spring in America as an exchange student and I’ve been wondering how to get to know the american students. It would be nice to get to know some local students too, not only the other exchange students. Do you have any advice on how could I meet with the local students? By joining some group maybe? And how american students usually feel about getting to know exchange students?

Hi!
These greek organizations sound really exciting. I’m a finnish student and I don’t know have we same kind of organizations in Finland, if we have then I have not heard about them. In our University each major has its own organization, is this the same idea?

Hey!
It sounds good that these organizations seem to make the start at a new University much more easier. Getting involvoed is always a good thing. Maybe it is also an important decision which organization you want to join (if there are more than one). To find out which one is most suitable for you you should go to these “Rush events” of several organizations first and then make a decision.

HI there Jeff!
With your encouragement and after reading about our experiences I sure will tka part in greek life ! I`ll go study in the U.S. next fall and I`m really looking forward to it.
I agree that I can make the most of my exchange time if I get involved in everything as much as possible. Thanks for shearing!
